Who is affected by varicose veins

Varicose veins are much more common in women than in men. And varicose veins happen more often as people get older. About 40 out of 100 women in their 50s have varicose veins. And about 70 out of 100 women in their 70s have varicose veins. For men, about 25 out of 100 men in their 40s, and about 40 out of 100 men in their 70s have varicose veins. 1

Varicose veins often develop during pregnancy. They usually become less prominent after pregnancy and may disappear completely.
