Promethazine for motion sickness

You can take promethazine before travel or during episodes of motion sickness to reduce symptoms of nausea and vomiting. This prescription medicine is available in the form of tablets, syrup, rectal suppositories, or injections.

A similar medicine, metoclopramide (Reglan), also is used for motion sickness, especially if stomach upset is the main symptom.

Drowsiness is the main side effect of these medicines. Dizziness also may occur.
