Melanoma excision: Final

Picture of the melanoma excision area after surgery

After surgery to remove a melanoma, the skin may be closed with stitches for a small excision. If the excision was large, a skin graft may be needed. This picture shows the usual shape of the scar after surgery to remove a small melanoma. Other ways of removing a small melanoma can leave a scar shaped a little like the letter "Z" or a round scar.
