For most of us, wounds heal gradually over time, without much thought. But for others, caring for a wound that won’t heal is an ongoing struggle. Those with diabetes, peripheral artery disease (PAD), pressure sores, burns, cellulitis, lymphedema, severe infections, lower extremity ulcers, or trauma are at particular risk for experiencing wounds that won’t seem to heal.
The Wound Healing Center at St. Francis can help. Our multidisciplinary team of physicians, general surgeons, vascular surgeons, plastic surgeons, therapists and nurses are specially-trained in caring for people with wounds that have resisted healing. They are up to date on the latest techniques and products to speed healing, and use a combination of advanced treatments that take into account the complex nature of chronic wounds. The team works in partnership with the patient's primary care physician, keeping them informed of progress during the course of treatment.
