A patient's doctor is in charge of medical care and will visit the patient to check on progress and to direct treatment. Registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), clinical nursing assistants (CNAs) and other health care professionals will work with the doctor to care for a patient. In South Carolina, patients legally can let their families and health care professionals know their intentions if they are unable to speak for themselves by using advance directives called living wills and health care powers of attorney.
All patients are encouraged to complete an advance directive prior to entering the hospital, and bring a copy of this document with them to be placed on the medical record. St. Francis strives to provide holistic care by recognizing that a patient's spiritual and emotional well being is just as important as medical needs. Our staff of professionally trained spiritual caregivers makes themselves available to patients, families, and staff daily.
People of all faiths are welcome in the chapels at St. Francis. Chapels are located on the ground levels of both hospital facilities. Services are held weekly in the downtown chapel.
Televised music and inspirational programming also are available on Channel 2 in patient rooms at ST. FRANCIS downtown.
Interpreters are available for hearing impaired patients and for those for whom English is a second language. A TDD phone will be provided upon request for the Hearing Impaired. Language line phones are also available for non-English speaking patients. To request an Interpreter, call 864-449-7993 to reach the Patient Relations interpreter on call.
